Directed by Sophie Hyde
Screenplay by Katy Brand
Stars: Emma Thompson, Daryl McCormack, and Isabella Laughland
I have been hearing good things about this movie. There is Emma Thompson. She is a goddess. I was loving this movie until a certain point.
An widowed woman, Nancy Stokes (Thompson) hires an escort, Leo Grande (McCormack). During their subsequent sessions together, the walls that were built up come crashing down.
Usually when there is a movie have only two people, I would take pause with it. Sometimes the action in the movie would become dull. It would make it feel like a play being transferred to screen.
The movie didn't feel like that for two thirds of the way through it. Then, something happened in the third act that made me roll my eyes at the movie. I can't say what it is, but I thought the momentum took a turn. It was hard to get back on track after that.
Did I enjoy the performances of Thompson and McCormack? Yes for the most part. If the turn was handled differently, I would have been raving about this movie.
Rating: 7/10
